Uri ni u Rwanda - this is Rwanda - is my place to share snippets of life - funny, silly, bizarre, random - in Rwanda.

My moto driver, Rukundo, pulled up to Primitive's front door so I could quickly grab a notebook I had forgotten. I was staying with my soon-to-be colleague and her family including her husband, 2 kids, 1 dog, 8 goats and 12 chickens. I hastily unlocked my door and searched for my notebook, unaware of the trash strewn across the floor. I found the notebook on my bed and went to leave when a flash of white caught my eye. I began to process the trash and the bit of dirt on my bed, neither of which were there when I had left that morning. As I looked closer, I realized the flash of white was a small, pristine chicken egg: one of the chickens must have squeezed through the barred window to lay her egg on the voluminous pile of sheets I was using as a makeshift pillow. Later that night, I told Primitive what happened, handing over the egg. You'll never guess what I was served for my breakfast the next morning?

This is Rwanda.
